The Spring Reset

I have a habit in the winter of falling off the creative and consistency train. Where I have all these grand plans to complete all the projects, only to fall into the hibernation bed rot the second the sun goes down. The time change that comes when it is time to “spring forward” may cause complain but I love a sunrise over a sunset, and as time goes on, I find that I am definitely solar powered. (But don’t get me wrong, I love a thunderstorm.) This blog is the perfect example, as I haven’t done a new post since February (yikes.)

However, I just needed to lean into the spring reset.

I spent a good six hours yesterday moving 80% of the furniture in my room to create a new flow. I turned on the chapter thirty-three playlist and moved the heavy pieces around. I spent time dusting and vacuuming away all the stagnant dust and taking a beat to judge every book by its cover to determine if it still had a home on the shelf. The motivation to shake things up came as a strike of lightning, and I didn’t want to chase the feeling the rest of the week. I had the day open, so it felt like a sign. The goal was to cultivate a space where creativity could thrive. I was debating returning my easel to the darkness of the basement, but the movement of shelves allowed it to have its own space. I have a space where I can paint in the shine of direct sunlight.

Life is about to get busy as the end of the school year approaches and the height of spring sports season arrives. I don’t want to live in the space of excuses to push my creative endeavors to the side for the 9-to-5. I have too many creative projects racing around my mind to keep them trapped in the Rolodex of my to-do lists. The spring reset brings new opportunities to reframe the mindset.

What I am bringing into the spring season:

  • Prioritizing time to paint and create

  • Spending as much time outside as possible

  • Homemade cold brew

  • Clearing out books, clothes, and other things that I no longer need

  • No screens after 10:00 pm

  • More physical book reading

  • Handwritten notes

  • No spend days

  • Permitting myself to slow down and not needing to fill every waking moment with being “productive”

  • Trying new art forms

  • Spend more time with my dogs.
