AMC Round Up - 1/18/26
Week Ending 1/18/26 Movies:
Night Patrol
Rating: R
Runtime: 1hr 44min
Logline: An L.A. cop discovers a local task force is hiding a secret that puts the residents of his childhood neighborhood in danger. (IMDb)
I rated this film 3 1/2 stars on Letterboxd as I really enjoyed the film and it was a new take on the vampire genre. The performances by Justin Long, CM Punk, and BLANK, were all phenominal and got the audience invested in the story. I always love when a film is broken up into chapters and this film aced it. Writer/Director Ryan Prows impressively pulled off a story that could have easily missed the mark. Prows other projects are moved up on the priority watch list. Dermot Mulroney, who in real life is one of the most lovely celebrities I have ever met, played such an unlikeable character (complimentary). I would recommend this movie.
PRIMATE
Rating: R
Runtime: 1hr 29min
Logline: A group of friends’ tropical vacation turns into a terrifying, primal tale of horror and survival (IMDb)
I rated this film 3/5 stars on Letterboxd as I thought the movie delivered the horrors it needed to but it wasn’t anything extraordinary. Some of the gore moments were utterly I N S A N E and worked in invoking jump scares. The premise of a monkey with rabies is terrifying and this movie feels like a cautionary tale. It was the perfect runtime as if it was longer I think I would have gotten bored due to repeatitivity. The pacing was great. I cared about the characters. Also did a great job of inducing anxiety. I would* recommend this film. (*depending on how you feel about monkeys and rabid animals.)
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
Rating: R
Runtime: 1hr 48min
Logline: As Spike is inducted into Jimmy Crystal’s gang on the mainland, Dr. Kelson makes a discovery that could alter the world. (IMDB)
Out of the three movies I saw this week, this one is the highest rated. I have a bit of a skewed interpretation of the 28 franchise as I have not seen 28 Days Later OR 28 Weeks Later (I know, I know) so the only two I have seen are 28 Years Later and The Bone Temple. I gave this film 4/5 on Letterboxd as the continuation of the original 28 Years Later film. I was still invested in these characters and seeing what Spike had to endure to continue surviving was heartbreaking. Dr. Kelson is THE character and Ralph Fiennes is PHENOMINAL in this. I don’t think I will ever think about the word “charity” the same after how Jimmy Crystal used it. I do also want to applaud Jack O’Connell for his performance in this film. I highly recommend this film.
